The hiring team reviews applications to verify minimum qualifications such as GPA (2.5 or higher), U.S. citizenship requirements for security-cleared positions, and relevant technical background. Initial screening typically takes 1-2 weeks.

2. Recruiter Phone/Video Interview

   A recruiter conducts a preliminary interview via telephone or video conference to assess communication skills, motivation, and basic technical knowledge. This stage focuses on understanding the candidate's background, career goals, and fit with the organization's mission in nuclear materials management and national security. Duration is typically 30-45 minutes.

3. Hiring Manager Technical Interview

   The hiring manager conducts a more in-depth technical interview covering cybersecurity expertise in areas such as network security, firewalls, threat detection, risk management, and DOE compliance requirements. Candidates may be asked scenario-based questions about identifying and mitigating cyber threats, implementing security controls, and managing Certification and Accreditation packages in a DOE environment. This stage typically lasts 45-60 minutes.

4. Behavioral and Problem-Solving Assessment

   Interviewers assess soft skills and real-world problem-solving through behavioral questions, asking candidates to walk through specific examples of security implementations, vulnerability discoveries, or how they overcame obstacles in previous roles. The interview team evaluates thought process, collaboration skills, documentation practices, and ability to work under pressure. Duration is typically 30-45 minutes.

5. Background Check and Pre-Hire Processing

   Upon receiving an offer, candidates must submit pre-hire documents for verification of work and academic history. This stage includes an acceptable background check, drug and alcohol testing, and proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination. Processing typically takes 2-4 weeks depending on clearance requirements.

6. Security Clearance Processing

   For security-cleared positions at Savannah River Site, candidates must complete additional DOE security clearance procedures as outlined in DOE Order 472.2. Candidates must also complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing before starting employment. This stage can take several weeks to months depending on clearance level required.
